Bryne Newfeldt was born in Enon on 02 November 1971. He grew up in the dusty streets of Enon a few kilometers from Kirkwood in the Sundays River Valley.
Born with a natural talent for art, Bryne won numerous art competitions at primary school. With very little access to proper art material, he used whatever resources were available from burned wood (charcoal) to ordinary house paint (gloss) to do art for family, friends and the broader community. After he matriculated at Bethelsdorp Secondary, Bryne completed Art N3 at Bethelsdorp technical college in 1991. Never having the opportunity to host a solo exhibition, Bryne collaborated with other artists in group exhibitions in various galleries in the Eastern Cape. In 2001 he was interviewed on SABC 3 by Mike Proctor-Sims for his use of household paint doing a series of wildlife paintings
Bryne’ s work depicts mainly human interactions and everyday life from his childhood till the present day.
His idea is to put on canvass the harmonious memories he once experienced as a child. To inspire and positively influence today’s youth and to redirect them from a path of drug and alcohol abuse.
Bryne will be at this year’s SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees where festival goers can pop in at his stall to see and purchase his work.
